Our suggestions

The braided rope slip lead: collar and leash in one piece, on in two seconds

A slip lead is a rope with a loop at each end: one is the handle, the other runs through a metal ring to form a collar that you slip over the dog's head. A leather stopper slides along the rope and holds the loop at the right size. It is the lead used by vets, trainers and shelters: nothing to buckle, ideal for a quick outing, a training session or the car. Braided nylon rope, thick and soft in the hand, leather reinforcements, 1.5 m long, in three thicknesses.

At a glance

  • Leash and collar in one: the loop slips over the head
  • Sliding leather stopper that holds the loop at neck size
  • Braided nylon rope, gentle on the hand when the dog pulls
  • Leather reinforcements at the joins, metal ring
  • 1.5 m long, 3 thicknesses: 0.8 cm, 1 cm, 1.3 cm
  • 5 colours: khaki, brown, blue, black, red

Which thickness should I choose?

Our advice: 0.8 cm for a small dog (up to about 10 kg), 1 cm for a medium dog (10 to 25 kg), 1.3 cm for a large dog or a dog that pulls. The loop adjusts to any neck: place it high, just behind the ears, and push the leather stopper until there is two fingers' room between the rope and the neck.

For a dog that pulls hard, a harness is gentler on the neck: see our no-pull harness and our guide dog pulling on the lead. For recall at a distance, the training long lead; all our collars and leashes.
