Dog coats & clothing — learn more
Does your dog need a coat?
Not every dog does. A small dog, a short-haired, older or cold-prone dog copes badly with cold and rain; a husky or a shepherd copes much better. The right garment depends on the outing:
- In the rain: the hooded reflective raincoat.
- With a built-in harness: one garment to put on, the leash ring sewn on the back, no harness to fit underneath: the water-repellent fleece-lined coat, S to 4XL, and the waterproof puffer jacket, S to 5XL. Measure the chest: it is what holds the harness in place.
- In freezing weather: the puffer jacket for small dogs, the fleece-lined coat with integrated harness or, S to 5XL, the puffer jacket with built-in harness, waterproof and fleece-lined, which replaces the harness; in snow and mud, the quilted winter snowsuit, which also covers the belly and all four legs; for a sighthound, a pointer or a Doberman, the high-neck fleece coat, XL to 5XL, which also covers the neck.
- At home: the cable-knit sweaters, the Nordic jacquard turtleneck sweater, the buttoned knitted cardigan, pink with bears or striped, the plush fleece vest with a leash ring, the hoodie and the four-legged fleece pajamas, for cool nights; for a small dog or a hairless cat, the hooded fleece onesie, which covers all four legs; to raise a smile, the apple or banana hoodie; for a touch of style, the tie-on cotton plaid bandana, and for a wedding, the white-collar tuxedo bow tie.
- At night and in hunting season: the reflective hi-vis vest.
- On the paws: the waterproof booties against salt and mud, the non-slip socks on wooden floors.
For the size, measure the back length, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and the chest, just behind the front legs, then check the size guide on each product page. Between two sizes, take the larger one. Which dogs really need a coat, and from what temperature: our guide dog coat. For the holidays: Christmas sweaters, hats and costumes.
FAQ
How do I know if my dog is cold?
It shivers, curls up, lifts its paws or refuses to go out: that is the sign.
And for a cat?
Only a hairless, older or shaved cat needs one, and indoors: the hooded fleece onesie covers all four legs. A cat with a normal coat does without; a warm bed does a better job. Our guide is my cat cold.
Coat and harness: how does it work?
The coat with built-in harness avoids wearing both; the puffer jacket has a ring to clip the leash.
Can clothing calm a dog that fears storms?
The anxiety vest wraps the body; its effect varies from one dog to another.
