Our suggestions
The pill goes in, your fingers stay out
Opening the mouth of a struggling cat to slip in a pill means risking a bite, and often finding the pill on the floor. The pill shooter (or pill dispenser) places the pill at the back of the mouth, with a little water that helps it go down, without putting your fingers in. The pack contains 3 pill shooters, red, green and blue, each with two soft tips: an open one for pills and capsules, a closed one for liquids.
Key points
- Pack of 3: red, green and blue
- Soft tip that is gentle on teeth and gums
- 2 tips per pill shooter: open for pills, closed for liquids
- 15 cm long, with a ring and finger grips
- For cats, dogs and small animals
How to give a pill with the pill shooter
- Draw a little water into the pill shooter, then place the pill in the open tip.
- Hold your pet against you, or wrap a cat in a towel, and keep its head slightly raised.
- Slide the tip in from the side of the mouth, behind the fangs, to the back of the tongue, without forcing.
- Push the plunger in one go: the pill goes in with the water. Keep the mouth closed for a few seconds and gently stroke the throat so that it swallows.
Reward your pet afterwards: next time will go better. Always follow your vet's prescription, and ask for advice if the pill is large or whether it can be given with water.
Which pills does it take?
Pills and capsules that fit in the open tip. If a pill is too large, ask your vet whether it can be cut or crushed.
Can it be used for liquid medicine?
Yes, with the closed tip: draw up the dose, then gently push the plunger from the side of the mouth, a little at a time, so that your pet has time to swallow.
Can the tip cause injury?
It is made of soft silicone, gentle on teeth and gums. Never force it and never push the tip into the throat: the back of the tongue is enough.
What is it made of?
Plastic, with silicone tips; the manufacturer states that the silicone is food grade.
How do I clean it?
After each use, rinse the pill shooter and the tips in lukewarm water, then let them dry apart.
Why three?
One per pet, or one per treatment: the colors keep them apart. The third one is a spare.
What if my pet takes its medicine in a treat?
If your vet allows mixing it with a liquid treat, our liquid treat spoon makes it easier to give.
