Our suggestions
The mat that draws claws away from the sofa: stuck on the armrest, it is what the cat scratches
A cat scratches where the material grips. This self-adhesive mat with a ribbed surface sticks onto the armrest or back of the sofa, a section of wall, the post of a cat tree or a door: it protects the fabric underneath and gives the cat a surface it prefers. It cuts with scissors to the shape you need, backing film to peel off, and sticks on without tools. Five colours to blend into the room, five sizes from 30 x 30 to 60 x 100 cm.
At a glance

- 5 sizes: 30 x 30, 30 x 60, 30 x 100, 60 x 60 and 60 x 100 cm (all sizes in midnight blue; 60 x 60 cm in the other colours, beige also in 30 x 100 cm)
Which size should I choose?
Measure the scratched area and add 5 cm on each side. As a guide: a sofa armrest is covered with a 30 x 60 or a 30 x 100 cm folded over the edge; the side of a sofa or a section of wall with a 60 x 100 cm; a cat tree post or a door corner with a 30 x 30 or a 30 x 60 cm cut to shape. Place it at the height where your cat already scratches, from the base up to the tips of its outstretched paws.

Does it hold on a fabric sofa?
Yes, that is its main use: the adhesive grips fabric, wood and smooth paint. On leather, faux leather or velvet, test on a hidden spot first: it grips less and may leave a mark when removed.
Will my cat use it?
Stuck exactly where it was scratching, yes in most cases: it finds the same spot with a material that grips better. Rub a little catnip on it for the first few days if needed.
Can it be removed without damaging the sofa?
Peel it off slowly, flat. On fabric and varnished wood it comes off cleanly; on fragile paint, some residue may remain.
How do I look after it?
A pass with the vacuum cleaner or a brush to remove hairs; when the surface is too worn, replace it.
Is the anti-scratch mat enough to protect the sofa?
It protects the arm while the cat changes its habit, but it moves the scratching rather than removing it: you need a scratcher right next to it, in sisal, taller than the cat and stable. Never punishment or a spray bottle. Our article on the cat that scratches the sofa.
