Our suggestions
Your cat scratches, your sofa is spared
A cat needs to scratch: it's how they maintain their claws, stretch, and mark their territory. This sisal scratching mat offers them the right surface, exactly where they want it: mounted on the wall at the height of their outstretched paws, against the sofa armrest they were targeting, or laid flat on the floor.
The essentials at a glance
- Tightly woven natural sisal: it catches claws and resists wear
- Stitched edges all around: it won't fray
- Back with removable hook-and-loop strips: for walls, furniture, sofas, or flat on the floor
- Two models: simple, or with a small hanging ball for playing while scratching
- Four sizes: from 20 × 40 cm to 50 × 90 cm
Which size to choose?
On the wall, choose a scratching mat high enough for your cat to stretch out fully: 30 × 60 cm for an average cat, 50 × 90 cm for a large cat or to protect an entire surface. The small formats (20 × 40 and 25 × 50 cm) are suitable for kittens, armrests, and furniture corners.
How to install it
- Identify the spot your cat already scratches: that is where you should install the scratching mat.
- Attach it using the hook-and-loop strips on the back, or simply place it flat.
- Rub it with a little catnip and encourage your cat when they use it.
All our scratchers.
Does it stay on the wall?
Yes, thanks to the hook-and-loop strips on the back. Test it first on a small, inconspicuous area: some delicate surfaces (wallpaper, fresh paint) do not handle adhesives well.
Can it be placed on a sofa?
Yes, on the armrest or backrest, where your cat is used to scratching. It is actually the best way to get them to stop scratching the fabric.
Does the sisal shed fibers?
A little at the beginning, like any sisal. Simply trim the loose fibers.
My cat isn't interested, what should I do?
Place it exactly where they were scratching before, rub it with catnip, and praise them when they use it. The hanging ball on the "with ball" model can also attract them.
Is it suitable for a Maine Coon?
Yes, in the 50 × 90 cm size: mounted high enough, it lets a large cat stretch out to its full length. All the gear a Maine Coon needs, with measurements, is in our Maine Coon guide.
My cat scratches the sofa: where do I fix this scratcher?
Exactly where it scratches, on the arm or the side of the sofa, at the height of a cat standing up with its front legs stretched. Reward every use, then move it a few centimetres a day if you want it elsewhere. The three-step plan is in our article on the cat that scratches the sofa.
- Care: vacuum hair and fibers; avoid getting the sisal wet.
