On a sighthound, the head is narrower than the neck: a classic collar, even when snug, slips over the ears the first time the dog backs away. The martingale collar solves this: its fabric control loop slides through two metal rings and tightens when the dog pulls or backs up, up to a fixed limit that you set once and for all, then loosens again when the leash goes slack. It never tightens beyond that setting: it is not a choke collar. Its 3.8 cm width spreads the pressure over the delicate neck of the whippet, galgo, greyhound or Italian greyhound.

What size should I choose?

Measure the neck at its widest point, just behind the ears, and choose the size whose range includes it. Then adjust the collar so that, with the control loop pulled tight, there is still two fingers' room between the collar and the neck: tightened, it no longer passes over the head; slack, it does not bother the dog.

Is it a choke collar?
No. A choke chain tightens without end; the martingale stops at the limit you set. Properly adjusted, it closes just enough not to slip over the head, without squeezing the throat.

Can my dog wear it at home?
It is made for walks. At home, and whenever the dog is alone, take it off or leave it well loosened: the control loop could catch on something.

Does it suit dogs other than sighthounds?
Yes, any dog whose head is slim compared with its neck (sighthounds, some shepherds, dogs that back out of their collar), going by the neck measurement.

How do I wash it?
By hand, in lukewarm soapy water, then dried flat.
