Our suggestions
A trickle of fresh water, like from the tap
Many cats ignore their bowl and drink from the tap: running water attracts them more. This water fountain lets a trickle of water fall from a tap-style spout into a tray, then filters it and recirculates it. Its clear 1.5 L tank shows the water level and the state of the filter at a glance.
Key points
- Clear 1.5 L tank: you can see when to refill
- Tap-style spout and drinking tray, to drink from the stream or flat
- Double filtration: filter tray and thick filter cotton, according to the manufacturer
- Quiet pump, protected against running dry, according to the manufacturer
- USB-C power
How do I look after it?
Change the water every two or three days and rinse the fountain every week, pump included. Replace the filter cotton as often as the manufacturer advises, more often with several pets. Keep it away from the litter box, and preferably away from the food bowl: many cats prefer to drink away from where they eat.
Our other fountains: the 2.2 L stainless steel fountain, the quiet fountain with night light and the cordless fountain with sensor. All our cat fountains and bowls.
Is it suitable for a dog?
For a small dog, yes; for a large dog, 1.5 L empties quickly: choose a bigger fountain.
What happens if it runs empty?
According to the manufacturer, the pump is protected against running dry; refill it as soon as the level drops.
Does a fountain help an older cat drink?
Vets recommend several water points around the home for a senior cat, whose kidneys need it to drink, and running water attracts many cats. The clear tank also lets you keep an eye on how much it drinks. Note: an older cat that suddenly drinks much more should be examined. See our guide senior cat.
Where should I put the fountain so my cat uses it?
Away from the kibble and the litter tray, somewhere quiet that it walks past, keeping its usual bowl next to it while it gets used to it. One water point per floor, and with several cats, one per cat plus one. How much it should drink and the warning signs: our article on the cat that is not drinking.
